When we think of Egypt we think of vast stretches of desert and the pyramids as old as civilization itself. Egypt has intrigued the imagination by its topography and more so by the power of the human will to etch its name on that arid and lifeless land. The pyramids stand as an affirmation of the human will over debilitating natural conditions.
One of the most famous pyramid that has been talked about ever since the world looked towards Egypt is the Great Pyramid of Giza. Believed to have been completed in 2560 BC, the pyramid was built for Cheops or Khufu, a ruler of the Fourth Dynasty of the almost thirty that ruled Egypt. The Great Pyramid of Giza is the oldest and largest of the three pyramids which are a part of the structure.

mastabas that house the bodies of other important members of the royal family. The pyramids of Giza are a wonder to behold when one considers the imagination and effort that would have gone into making this an architectural marvel of all times. It is generally believed that the Great Pyramid of Giza took at least 20 years to be built and recent research show that it was not built by Jewish slaves, as it is popularly believed. Rather, it seems it was built by paid labourers who believed in preserving the divine supremacy of their king even in his death. The pyramids of Giza were filled with objects the ruler of the land would need in his journey to the afterlife. Unfortunately, these structures that stood the ravages of time could not protect their contents from tomb raiders who even stripped the place of the sarcophagus that kept the body of the king.
The pyramid of Giza is a monumental wonder of the ancient world unmatched in its glory as a tribute to a king who once walked this earth and commanded one of the cradle beds of civilization.
