Where is Amatrice located:
Located in the central Italy, in northern Lazio, Amatrice is a town as well as comune in the Rieti province. The city is also the seat of food agricultural base of "Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park". According to the archeological discoveries, there are evidences of human presence in the city since prehistoric times, and there are also remains of Roman buildings as well as towns. After the Western Roman Empire fell off, the area came under Lombard Duchy of Spoleto, which included the comitatus of Ascoli.
The city also gained popularity for its Sugo all'amatriciana pasta sauce. In fact, many cooks of the popes belonged to Amatrice. The notable natives of Amatrice are Italian ornithologist, historian and physician Elio Augusto Di Carlo (1918-1998) and artist Sara Pichelli (1983-).
