Abu Simbel is located in the Aswan Governorate in southern Egypt, near the border with Sudan. It is situated on the western bank of the Nile River. The Abu Simbel temples were relocated in the 1960s to save them from being submerged by the rising waters of the newly created Lake Nasser. The temples are famous for their colossal statues and intricate carvings, a testament to the grandeur of ancient Egyptian pharaohs.
