2006 AFC Women's Championship



2006 AFC Women's Championship was one of the chief Vietnam sports festivals concentrating around the most popular sports of the country, football. Started by the Asian Ladies Football Confederation in 1975, the AFC Women's Championship later came under the authority of Asian Football Confederation.

2006 AFC Women's Championship saw the emergence of some of the strongest competitors of women's football in Asia. The qualifying matches of AFC Women's Championship, 2006 were played earlier in 2005 in Hanoi, Vietnam. Among the participating countries in the qualifying rounds, Vietnam women's team won over Chinese Hong Kong.

The final rounds of 2006 AFC Women's Championship were played amongst teams divided into two groups. Group A consisted of teams from Vietnam, China PR, Japan and Chinese Taipei while Group B comprised teams from Australia, Thailand, DPR Korea, Myanmar and Korea Republic. Unfortunately, the women's football team from Vietnam was ousted from the competition in the group league matches of AFC Women's Championship, 2006.

The final football match of 2006 AFC Women's Championship was played between Australia and China PR, the latter team won. The third and the fourth position went to DPR Korea and Japan respectively. Nagasato Yuki, Japan, and Jung Jung Suk, Korea Rep, were the top scorers of AFC Women's Championship, 2006. The most valuable player award went to Ma Xiaoxu, China PR.
