Capital of Vietnam

One-thousand years old, the capital of Vietnam, Hanoi, has been the seat of culture, history, politics, commerce and economics for centuries. From the ancient times, Hanoi has witnessed the birth, evolution, fall of a number of civilizations. Influx of people from other countries has led to the growth of a mixed culture. Yet, the capital of Vietnam still retains its native flavor and color.

Previously the capital city of Vietnam has been the cradle of royal empires which flourished till the end of 19th century when the country came under French colonization. Vietnam became independent in 1945 and Hanoi was declared the capital of independent Vietnam. But Hanoi once again became a French colony in 1946. In 1954, the French army receded from Vietnam. The country was divided and Hanoi became the capital of North Vietnam. It underwent, but survived, major destruction and faced political catastrophe during the Vietnam War.

Presently, Vietnam's capital is divided into a total of 12 districts which are equipped with hospitals, schools, factories, enterprises, theaters etc. Hanoi is drained by a number of rivers. It experiences a tropical climate characterized by four distinct seasons including the monsoons.

Hanoi is a combination of natural beauty, vibrant city life, traditional culture, urban structures, ancient architecture and a modern industrial zone. It is a reflection of past and a vision of the future.
