Vietnam War is considered to be the longest conflict in the history of US. Fought in Vietnam, the war started from 1959 and continued till 1975. The
Vietnam War was fought between the North Vietnamese and the army of South Vietnam. The North Liberation Front supported the former and the forces of the United States joined the latter. The Vietnam War claimed more than 58000 lives.
At the time of the First Indo China War, the Vietnamese rebelled against the rule of the French rulers. After the war ended, the nation was divided into North and South Vietnam. The Vietnamese communists who were against French rule took over North Vietnam. The southern part came under the control of the communists supporting French collaboration.
During this military war of Vietnam, around 4 million Vietnamese were killed along with Lao and Cambodians. Though, the forces of the United States gave their support to the government of South Vietnam, they failed to attain their goal. In the year 1975, the country was reunified under Communist rule and came to be known as “Socialist Republic of Vietnam.”
