The Chinese rulers have left a great impact on Vietnam. The most significant aspect of Vietnam under Chinese rule was the united protests against the imposition of Chinese culture on Vietnamese. The Chinese governors wanted to impose their culture, customs and language by achieving total Sinicization.
Vietnam under Chinese rule became a sophisticated nation with technological and scientific advancements. Vietnam became the most advanced nation in the entire Southeast Asia. There were several developments during the Chinese rule in Vietnam. Roads were constructed and waterways and harbors were improved to support good transportation system. New systems were introduced to improve agriculture and mining in Vietnam. During the Chinese rule in Vietnam, the country was divided into several military districts for the convenience of the administration. Though government was very lenient in Vietnam, Chinese governors used to head the districts.
During the 1st century A.D. there was a change in the government form. It was realized that to expand their dominion over Vietnam they need to have control on every aspect of Vietnamese culture. The Chinese rulers wanted to use the Red river delta as a harbor for ships.
The Vietnamese people under Chinese rule first revolted during 40 AD. Though much rebellion took place to over throw the Chinese reign, it remained secured for a long period of time. During the decline of the T’ang dynasty, a number of revolts took place leading to the independence of Vietnam.
