The Vietnamese are the descendants of the Mongols. Founded by the emperor Hung Vuong in 2879 BC, the nation was known as Nam Viet until 15th century. The early history of Vietnam mainly deals with reign of the French and Chinese rulers.
During 19th century the French occupied Vietnam and unified the nation in 1887. At that time, Vietnam was divided into three parts, Cochin- China, Tonkin and Annam. Though the country claimed independence after the Second World War, the French rule continued. The Vietnam history also informs us that the country was divided into anti-Communist South and Communist North during that period
In the year 1960, US forces started providing military and financial help to South Vietnam. But in 1973, the US forces cam back due to a ceasefire agreement. Later on, the North Vietnamese conquered the southern part uniting it into one nation under the Communist domain.
The modern history of Vietnam states the several economic reforms undertaken to boost up the economy of Vietnam. Still now, Vietnam experiences protests from various ethnic groups.
