Vietnam is home to different types of animals and plants. The subtropical climate of the country is ideal for plant growth. The Vietnam flora and fauna consists of innumerable animals and plants. There are several jungle trees, mosses, vines, ferns and bushes. The mountainous areas of Tonkin feature tropical rain forest with pine trees in the higher altitudes. Mangrove vegetation and tropical grasses form a major part of the Vietnam flora.

The Vietnam fauna includes countless numbers of wild animals like snakes, buffaloes, otters, tigers, panthers, crocodiles and many types of insects. Domestic animals are also very commonly found in Vietnam. Chickens, dogs, ducks, water buffaloes and pigs are widely found. Due to abundance of water, the forests have become an ideal habitat of wild animals.
The country has a well-balanced ecosystem. There are several plants that are not useful to human beings but are useful to various animals. Major portions of the Vietnam forest have been cleared for agricultural purposes.
