Vietnamese Tet is the new year of Vietnamese and is celebrated with great enthusiasm. Tet is celebrated in the Lunar New year and continues for 7 days. Vietnamese Tet preparation is very special and starts a week before the arrival of the festival. Home cleaning is vital and every single home gets cleaned as people relate it with the riddance to the bad fortune. Homes are painted and a new look is found in everything for a fresh new start. From clothes to shoes, everything has to be brand new and people in debt usually pay it and resolve the family differences.
The Vietnamese are highly concerned about the things they do in the New Year as they relate the Vietnamese Tet with good luck and fortune. The people associate good fortune with Tet, and try to give their best in everything. Homes are decorated with yellow blossoms (Hoa Mai) and these flowers represent spring season.
Gift exchange is also seen among the near and dear ones and people visit the temples to pray for a prosperous new year ahead. During the Vietnamese Tet people plant New Year's tree (Cay Neu) in front of their homes and it has its cultural significance attached to the festival. Vietnam events and festivals are very unique and the Vietnamese have celebrated all of them with equal enthusiasm from the time of their origin.
