Tet Doan Ngo is a Vietnamese festival, which is celebrated on the fifth day of the first lunar month every year. Tet Doan Ngo, also known by Tet Giet Sau Bo, is a middle year festival and is celebrated to ward off the evil spirits as well as for the prevention of the diseases. In the morning of Tet Doan Ngo people usually get up early in the morning and eat fermented sticky rice and fruits. The fermented sticky rice (Insect killing wine) is the main treat of this festival and the Vietnamese are supposed to consume it as per their cultural traditions.
The festival holds a special place in Vietnamese events and festivals. The myth behind consuming the sticky rice is associated with the killing of parasites in the body. To make the wine, the sticky rice is boiled and then it is cooled. After that the rice is mixed with the brewers yeast and is fermented for two to three days. The rice after fermentation is allowed to cool and the sweet and thick liquid and is ready for consumption.
Tet Doan Ngo is one of the significant festivals of Vietnam and is very much associated with the Vietnamese tradition and culture.
