Venezuela Legislature


According to the Venezuela constitution, the Venezuela legislature is bicameral. It consists of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies. The members are elected through the ballot system. The senators should be at least thirty years of age in order to contest the election. The deputies should be of twenty years of age to become a member of the Chamber of Deputies. The contestants should be a national of Venezuela, in order to hold a diplomatic position. The body is elected for a period of five years and after every five year elections are held.

The lower house of the Venezuela government sees to the revenue, taxation bills and the budget, while the upper house of the government sees to the bills regarding international agreements and treaties. Sometimes the Senate also gives its consent to the appointments to diplomatic posts and also oversees the promotion of the military officials to high ranks. The Venezuela constitution also has provisions for parliamentary immunity. The chambers elect their presidents, who act as the vice president of the Congress. The president of the Senate acts as the president of the Congress. Each chamber has two committees, which see to the internal and foreign affairs along with other important things.

The Venezuela legislature debates, approves, considers, rejects or changes the legislation. The legislature is an important part of the Venezuela government.
