Teresa de la Parra was one of the famous novelists of Venezuela during the 19th century. She was born in Paris on 5th of October, 1889. Later she shifted to Venezuela along with her parents.

She belonged to the elite class of the society as her father was the ambassador of Venezuela to Germany. Teresa de la Parra beliefs and thoughts were different from the other people of the society. Teresa de la Parra belonged to an era when Venezuela had just received its independence from Spanish rule.
There were different types of traditions and practices that were followed by the people of the society. Several prejudices existed regarding the role and right of women in the society. They were always required to play a subordinate role to the men. However, Teresa de la Parra was a great supporter of women rights and independence.
Novels of Teresa de la Parra
The strong viewpoints of Teresa de la Parra have been reflected through her great works. Her creations, “Ifigenia” and “Mama Blanca's Souvenirs” revolved around the kind of life that women were forced to live in that period. Reading her novels also gives an idea of the kind of customs and practices that existed in those days. “Ifigenia” was published in the year 1924 and “Mama Blanca's Souvenirs” was published in 1929.
In 1930, Teresa de la Parra suffered from tuberculosis and she passed away while she was in Madrid on 23rd April, 1936.
Along with the two valuable novels mentioned above, Teresa de la Parra had also written a number of essays and short stories.
