Romulo Gallegos, a political figure and novelist is one of the most eminent personalities of Venezuela. Romulo Gallegos Freire became the president of Venezuela in the year 1948. He is well-known for his immense contribution to Venezuela literature. He is best remembered for the illustrious novels that portray the social events of Venezuela. He is one of those Latin American writers who earned global reputation. His novels commonly deal with the sentiments of the local people. He has also written a lot about the Venezuelan grasslands popularly known as “Llanos”.
Important Works of Romulo Gallegos
“Adventurers”, a collection of short stories was written by Romulo Gallegos in the year 1913. Between the years 1910 to 1919 he published innumerable stories. His stories mainly revolved around the the day-to-day life of the local people. The common elements that existed in his stories were realism, absurdity, nature and atmosphere, emotions and passions and the evils prevailing in the society of Venezuela.
In 1920, he wrote the “Last Lot”, which was edited and published again in 1930. “Last Lot” newly titled as “Solar Reinaldo” was a descriptive novel that dealt with an aristocratic family in the verge of decay. Again in 1922 “Rebellion” was published. Soon after this novel gained public recognition “Trepadora” was published. The Mestizo culture has been vividly depicted in these novels.
