Venezuelan Merengue
Venezuelan Merengue is one of the important forms of folk music of Venezuela, which was highly influenced by the African drumming style that was prevalent in this region. Venezuelan Merengue has a specific style of its own. Light hearted lyrics and short rhythm characterizes this Venezuelan music. Some of the most popular Merengue songs, are ‘El Becerrito’, ‘Merenguito’, ‘El Guapachoso’, ‘Cuando me enamoro’ and 'La Abejita'.
Joropo
Joropo is another important folk music of Venezuela, which has been integrated to the culture of the country. African music has greatly influenced Joropo. This Venezuelan musical form is easily identified by short verses, which are also repetitive.
Joropo has three different forms, which are Llanero Joropo, Eastern Joropo and Central Joropo. Golpe is yet another form of Joropo, which is particularly popular in Lara district in Venezuela.
Gaita
Gaita is another popular traditional music of Venezuela, which originated in the State of Zulia of Venezuela. With the passage of time, Gaita became popular throughout the country. Gaita is played mainly during
Christmas in Venezuela. There are two forms of Gaita - Gaita Margariteña and Gaita de furro.
