Arturo Uslar Pietri



Arturo Uslar Pietri was a renowned writer and active politician of Venezuela. His birthplace is Caracas, Venezuela. He was born in an affluent family in the year 1906. The writer Arturo Uslar Pietri, hailed from a rich political background. He has been a much celebrated writer after Romulo Gallegos.

Arturo Uslar Pietri passed his graduation with political science in the year 1929. He became the civil diplomat of Venezuela and was placed in France for five years. In the year 1931 his first novel “Lances Red” was published. This novel depicts the Hispano-American culture as well as illustrates the struggle that went on in the lives of the people during the Venezuelan War of Independence. He gained international fame for this novel.

In the year 1934, he returned to his homeland and continued to compose several literary works. He also went onto become one of the most respected politicians of Venezuela. In the year 1933 he was appointed as the minister of primary education in Venezuela. He tried to reform the education system of Venezuela through his political endeavors.

Between the years 1945 to1950 his writings increased manifold. A collection of short-stories, a novel and significant books on numerous tests were published. He also taught in the University of Colombia for some years and gained reputation as a professor. He was a famous public figure who led a struggled political life. Venezuela literature owes greatly to Arturo Uslar Pietri for his strong, fervent writings.
