Uzbek Dances are divided into two main categories – classical, professional and folk. The classical dance of Uzbek is further sub-divided into three sections namely Bukhara, Khorezm and Fergana. The unique trait of dances of Uzbek is that footwork is minimal whereas there is extensive movements of the limbs. The Uzbek dances are mostly performed by the females of Afghanistan.
The professional dances of Uzbekistan are categorized into three segments. The first section comprises of oyin, ufari and rags all of which demand excellent technical mastery over the various dance movements. The second one includes a humorous variation called gul ufari propounded by the Maskharaboz theater dancers. The third category of Uzbek professional dance consists of acrobatics performed by the circus artists.
From single percussion musical instrument to double-stringed rhythmic instruments, the dances of Uzbek involve a range of synchronizing accompaniments. Having both classical and folk dance genre Uzbekistan boasts of an age-old heritage. The basic difference between the classical and folk dance of Uzbekistan is that while the former is based on themes of beauties of nature, joy, sorrow, life and death etc., the latter focuses on war and labor.
