Russian to USA Visa









Like many other countries, a large number of people who immigrate to the US every year descend from Russia. The immigrating Russian citizens, thus quite normally, require immigrant visa to enter the USA (for details on various kinds of visas to USA, please refer to Types Of USA Visas , Index 3).

Immigrant Visa to Russian Immigrants :

  • The US Embassy in Moscow issues immigrant visas to Russian nationals seeking permanent residence in the United States - based on family relationship with US citizens or US permanent residents, or offers of employment.

    In Russia, the Consular Section of the US Embassy will send the visa to a DHL courier in 2-3 days after its approval. The Moscow Department of Homeland Security (DHS) office accepts immigrant visa petitions filed only by American citizens living in Russia, on behalf of their relatives on any working day between 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

    Non-Immigrant Visa to Russian Immigrants :

    The consular section at the US Embassy in Moscow issues visas to Russian citizens who wish to the United States for various kinds of purposes, such as:

    • Temporary Business or Tourism ( B Category Visa )
    • Student or Exchange Programs ( F, M, J Category Visa )
    • Temporary Work ( H, L Category Visa )
    • Journalists ( I Category Visa )
    • Religious Occupations ( R Category Visa )
    • Crew Members and/or Transit ( C1/D Category Visa )
    • Documents Required for Non Immigrant Visa :
    • Application Forms [DS-156 (for all non immigrant visas), DS-157(supplement non-immigrant visa), DS-158 (for applicants seeking F, J, and M visas)]
    • Photo (those submitting documents via Pony Express should not staple or glue photo to the application form)
    • Valid passport
    • Nonimmigrant Visa Fees
    • Supporting Documents [such as applicant's social, economic or family ties to Russia, Evidence of income, Evidence of ownership of property, etc.)
    • Applicants who wish to study in the United States, must include the form I-20 or the form DS-2019 (received from the educational institution in the United States).
    • Those who are applying for H or L visas must provide: Copy of Form I-129(petition) and all other supporting documents filed with the I-129.
    • Original Form I-797Photocopy of Diploma or other professional credentials

    Interview :

    All visa applicant need to appear for an interview before the US Consulate. Applicants require to bring Pony Express appointment ticket to the Embassy at the scheduled date and time of interview to ensure quick admission to the interview.

    Exemptions to interview include :

    • Children of thirteen years or below.
    • Persons aging eighty years or above.
    • Diplomats and officials traveling on official purpose (A or G visas).
    • Persons who had a valid US visa that expired less than twelve months ago. In case they are applying for the re-issuance, they need to submit the passport that contains the previous visa.
