TheNational Visa Center USA (inaugurated in April, 1994) is a permanent immigrant visa processing facility body of the US Department of State located in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
Functions of the National Visa Center (NVC) are :
It supports the worldwide operations of theBureau of Consular Affairs Visa Office
It processes all approved immigrant visa petitions after they are received fromCitizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and retains them until the cases are ready for adjudication by a consular officer abroad
It collects fees associated with immigrant visa processing.
Way of Functioning :
NVC receives telephone and written inquiries from applicants, petitioners, congressional offices, US embassies, CIS offices and, even from the White House. An automated recorded message system answers many of these inquiries 24 x 7 (at: 603 334-0700). More difficult inquiries are responded to by the operators from 7:30 - 12:30 AM (EST) [Monday through Friday]
Status of case information and access to an operator can be received by entering the NVC case number or CIS receipt number on a touch-tone telephone. Case inquiries can also be made via email (at: nvcinquiry@state.gov ). NVC only has information on petitions it has received. However, if the automated service does not recognize the CIS file or receipt numbers entered, then the NVC has not yet received the concerned applicant's petition
Answers to commonly asked questions can be retrieved through an automated e-mail response system
Written inquiries, changes of address and requests to upgrade petitions could be sent to: WC The National Visa Center, 32 Rochester Avenue, Portsmouth NH, 03801-2909 or email nvcinquiry@state.gov . [The NVC is not open to the public]
