The Star-Spangled Banner is the famous United States of America National Anthem as the song itself tells us about the history when the war with the British was being fought and of one man's relief in seeing the US Flag still flying even after the vicious bombardment.

The song tells us about the battle of 1812 where there was a major conflict with the British where they burned the White House in Washington and set on the process of taking over the Baltimore where the British fleet positioned for a massive attack at the fort. Two Americans John Skinner and part-time poet Francis Scott Key went to negotiate with British for the release of Dr William Beanes who was seized by them. The British on board detained them. They watched the bombardment from the deck until they got to see the star shaped fort with a huge flag which British forces could see it even from a distance. At dawn Key saw the huge flag, which made him, rest assured of the British defeat. So he wrote the first line of the National Anthem on a back of an envelope that he called the Defense of Fort M'Henry. It was this poem, which turned out to be a hymn and ultimately was declared as the National Anthem.

President Woodrow Wilson ordered it to be the National Anthem which needs to be played in the military and naval services, but it wasn't until March 3rd, 1931 that it was officially declared National Anthem by act of Congress.
