United States Naval Academy

The United States Naval Academy is an institution located in Annapolis, Maryland, which was established as the Naval School on October 10, 1945, by George Bancroft, the then Secretary of the Navy.   reads, “ex scientia tridens”, meaning “from knowledge, sea power”. The pupil at the Naval Academy in US are called by their military ranks, and are commissioned as Junior Officers in the United States Navy or Second Lieutenants in the Marine Corps, and it is mandatory for them to serve a minimum of 5 years after getting commissioned. The academy has both civilian professors, who are all Ph.D. holders, and US Military instructors with Master’s Degree, serving as faculty. Some of the military instructors with Ph.D. are given the designation of Permanent Military Professors, and these professors serve the academy till their retirement.

The US Naval Academy has a sports team, which apart from other events, participates in annual Army-Navy Game, a football tournament. During the competition the teams of US Military Force Academies compete for the Commander in Chief’s Trophy. The US Naval Academy has won numerous championships at both the national and international levels. Jimmy Carter, Charles Wilson, James D. Watkins, Roger Staubach, Michael J. Smith, Phil McConkey, Montel Williams and Hank Egan are few of the many notable alumni from the academy.
