United States Treasury

The United States Treasury is an important department, is a conglomeration of Office of the Secretary and the various Departmental Offices. These are the chief offices where the important policies of the state are made. An Assistant Secretary in each of the offices of the United States Treasury, shoulder the duty of keeping a check on the work. Apart from this there are other notable bureaus that have various obligations. To mention a few bureaus of the United States Treasury, we have, the United States Mint, manufacturing the state coins, while the Bureau of Engraving and Printing is instrumental in making paper currency and the list goes on. Thus all the functions of the United States Treasury are equally distributed within the aforesaid offices and bureaus.

Functions of the United States Treasury

In addition to the ones already mentioned above, the United States Treasury have other crucial purposes as well, like:

• The United States Treasury has an office called the Internal Revenue Service, which amasses various kinds of government revenue and valuable income taxes.
• Another department of the United States Treasury is the Bureau of the Public Debt, whose sole responsibility lies in dealing with sale and repurchase of Treasury bonds, bills and notes.

United States Treasury and Budget

The budget is paramount to the economy of any country. The same applies to the US and the United States Treasury takes an active role in it. This department along with its bureaus gave employment to some 116,675 people in the year 2003 and its budget authority was $11.1 billion.

The United States Treasury regulates and keeps a vigilant check on National banks and other savings institutions.
