The
Western Virginia Community College is a public college within the Commonwealth of Virginia, established in the year 1966 with the vision of emerging as, the best center for community studies within the state. Situated in Roanoke County,
the college has grown into the 4th largest college that is governed by the prestigious Virginia Community College System. Primarily, the college imparts 2 year higher education, which it is sanctioned to grant under the system of community colleges. The curricula of the Western Virginia Community College are sanctioned by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Virginia Western Community College Board. The continued growth trend that the college has displayed, has earned it recognition from the historical Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
The
Western Virginia Community College has shouldered the responsibility of serving the student population of Roanoke, Salem, Southern Botetourt county, Craig county and the northern part of Franklin county. Although, the rate of growth of this college has been slow yet, the student population of the college borders around 9000. Enabled with a 70 acre area, the college freely imparts its students quality high education and vocational training courses. The most significant contribution of the college in the education of Virginia is that; it has helped in promoting education among all sections of society. It looks forward to promoting this mission through open door admissions, financial assistance, affordable tuition fees and other additional support facilities. Today, the college has facility for Distance Education also.
