There is no separate organization by the name of Virginia Unemployment Commission, which is efficient in alleviating the problem of
Virginia unemployment.
However, by the provision of the special Social Security Act of 1935, the Virginia Employment Commission has started certain schemes to lessen this problem. The Unemployment Insurance system operating within the Employment Commission, is specially equipped to perform 3 basic functions, which are as follows:
- Providing basic amenities to the unemployed
- Creating opportunities for their re-employment
- Taking steps to alleviate the causes that lead to unemployment

In the year ending 2006, the federal government of Virginia made as much as $326,949,485 into the Unemployment Insurance fund.
Besides there is the added provision of the Virginia Unemployment Compensation Act which contributes somewhat in alleviating the problem of
Virginia unemployment. This unemployment compensation act establishes a labor exchange system, a fund which provides temporary financial assistance to the unemployed, coordinating the labor market of Virginia, enlist the vacancies of state jobs, innovate new training programs and seeing to it that all its schemes are efficiently incorporated. The government of the commonwealth of Virginia has also created the Commission on Unemployment Compensation, whose only purpose is to assess the Unemployment commission system of Virginia on an annual basis. The Commission on Unemployment Compensation is part of the legislative branch of the government of Virginia. There are the special Virginia Unemployment benefits guaranteed to only those unemployed who fulfill the requirements of the state law and that of the Virginia Employment commission's compensation acts.
