Southwest Virginia Community College

The Southwest Virginia Community College became operational in 1968 as a part of the chain of 23 community colleges that functions across Virginia under the Virginia Community College System.
Located on the outskirts of Richland in Virginia, the college serves the student population in the Tazewell and Russell counties. The admission procedure to the college is primarily quite simple and is basically done online, but it has to be ensured that the admission form is accepted by the Admissions Office. Interested students can apply for any degree, diploma or certificate courses available in the college's curricula and there are special academic advisors and student development services that assist students with selecting subjects according to their capability.

Applicants may choose to pursue any Associate of Arts and Science degrees, Associate of Applied Science, other Diplomas and Certificates and Career Studies programs. The college offers special re-admission to past students who have not enrolled within 3 years of completing their last higher educational course. The Southwest Virginia Community College has shown a rapid ascent in terms of growth and hence, at present the student population of the college for just the fall and spring semesters exceeds 4000. Ever since its inception, the college had been under the administration of Dr. Charles R. King, but since his resignation in 2006, the college is being administered by Dr. Mark Estepp. Student politics is very rife within the college campus and there is an active student government organization within the college grounds.
