The popularity of the
Virginia Commonwealth University is mainly because of the excellent research facilities that the university provides to Virginian students.
It is probably the best public university in the state that provides superior research facilities. One of the factors contributing to the university's popularity among research students, is the location of its main campuses in downtown Richmond, the capital of Virginia. The university covers a wide ambit of courses, offering 195 degree programs in the undergraduate, graduate, professional and doctorate levels. The research activities of the university are entirely sponsored by the government, which enables more than 30000 students to benefit through acquiring in-depth knowledge.
The campus area of the
Virginia Commonwealth University includes no less than 15 schools with a liberal arts college. The university is also the proud owner of one of the nation's premier medical centers. The university had originally culminated from the famous Medical College of Virginia that was established way back in 1838. The medical college was finally approved by the state in 1860 and subsequently, the university's first campus was established in 1917 in Monroe Park. The first school started off as the School of Social Work and Public Health and in 1925 transformed into the Richmond version of the college of William and Mary. The name was Richmond Professional institute in 1939 and finally, the college became a separate entity in 1962 when it broke ties with the College of William and Mary. The medical center formed an union with the college in 1968 and became the present-day Virginia Commonwealth University.
