Chemicals and related products, foods, electrical machinery, primary metals, automobiles, textiles and apparel, and stone, clay, and glass items are the leading manufactured goods. Mining also contributes to the economy of the state. Stone is the leading mineral followed coal,zinc. Clays, phosphate rock, sand and gravel are also mined in the Tennessee.
Tourism adds to the revenues of the state. The many beautiful lakes in the city attract millions of tourists to Tennessee every year. The country-music mecca of Nashville and the blues and jazz hub of Memphis are major attractions.
The state is home to headquarters of major corporations; FedEx Corporation, AutoZone Incorporated and International Paper are all based in Memphis; Knoxville houses Pilot Corporation and Regal Entertainment Group; Eastman Chemical Company is based in Kingsport, the North American headquarters of Nissan are based in Franklin; and the head-quarters of Caterpillar Financial is in Nashville. Volkswagen Chattanooga Assembly Plant and a 1.2 Billion dollar polysilicon production facility by Hemlock Semiconductor Group in Clarksville is also located in Tennessee.
