The state is a major timber producer in the country. Recently the production of timber has declined due to forest fires, over-harvesting, and lawsuits over the management of the extensive federal forest holdings. The decline in the timber and lumber industry has resulted in high unemployment rates in rural areas of the state.
High Technology industries and services have been a major employer since the second-half of twentieth century. The state is home to many large data-centers, including Google, Facebook and Amazon. The largest public corporations headquartered in Oregon are Nike Inc, Precision Castparts Corp, FLIR Systems, StanCorp Financial Group, and Schnitzer Steel Industries.
In recent years the economy of Oregon has shifted from one based on natural resources to a mix of manufacturing, services and high technology. The state is ranked 26th wealthiest state by GDP in the United States.

The state has one of the largest salmon-fishing industries in the world. Tourism contributes significantly to the economy of the state. Portland has the largest breweries of any city in the world. Oregon occasionally hosts film shoots. The state exports computer and electronic products, machinery manufactures, chemical manufactures, and transportation equipments. The largest trade flows are with Canada, China, Japan, Malaysia, and South Korea.
