There are many premier institutions of higher learning in North Dakota. North Dakota State University is the largest university in the state.

The state of North Dakota is home to eleven public colleges and universities, five tribal community colleges, and four private schools. Mayville State University, and Jamestown College are some of the most prestigious institutions in the state.

Major universities in North Dakota are:

University of North Dakota: Located in Grand Forks, North Dakota, the University of North Dakota is a public, space-grant university. One of the oldest universities in the state, it was established by the Dakota Territorial Assembly in 1883. It is the largest university in the state with an enrollment of over 14,000 students. The major courses offered are law, medicine, aerospace sciences, health sciences, nutrition, energy and environmental protection, and engineering. Robert Kelley is the president of the university.

North Dakota State University:

Also known as the North Dakota State University of Agriculture and Applied Sciences, the North Dakota State University is a public university in Fargo, North Dakota, United States. With an enrollment of 14,000 students, it is the largest university in the state. It was founded in 1890 as North Dakota Agricultural College in 1890.

The institution offers many academic programs including engineering, agriculture, arts, social sciences, business, architecture, mathematics, pharmacy, and nursing. The president of the university is Dr. Dean L. Bresciani.

Jamestown College: Located in Jamestown, North Dakota, Jamestown College is a private liberal arts college. It was founded by the Presbyterian Church in 1883. There are about 1,000 students enrolled in the institution. The major academic programs offered include business, accounting, economics, computer science and information technology. The president of the college is Robert S. Badal.
