The Massachusetts Institute of Technology is a privately held research university and is located at Cambridge. It has five schools and a college and has 32 departments in all. The Institute places strong emphasis on technological and scientific research.
Amherst College
Amherst College is a privately owned liberal arts college situated in Amherst. It only offers undergraduate classes in 35 major programs. The college was established in 1821 in an effort to reposition Williams College by the then President, Zephaniah Swift Moore.
Williams College
Williams College is a privately held liberal arts institute that is located in Williamstown. It was set up in 1793 with financial assistance from the estate of Ephraim Williams. It was a men's college to start with but became coeducational from 1970 onwards. It is a part of the historic Three Colleges group along with Amherst College and Wesleyan University.
