Idaho is popular as an agricultural state as it produces nearly one-third of the potatoes grown in the United States. The gross state product of the state in 2004 was US $43.6 billion while its per capita income was US $26,881. It is home to the largest factory for barrel cheese.
Important industries in the state are food processing, lumber and wood products, chemical products, machinery, paper products, silver and other mining, and tourism. Science and Technology is the largest sector in the state. The northern part of the state has many award-wining boutique wineries and microbreweries.

Cattle and dairy goods are the important agricultural products. Major agricultural outputs are potatoes, hay, wheat, peas, beans, and sugar beets. Sun Valley is one of the country's famous tourist spot. Mining is important for the economy, and the major mining outputs are phosphates, gold, silver, molybdenum, antimony, lead, zinc, and other minerals. The state income tax ranges from 1.6% to 7.8% and is divided into eight income brackets. Sales tax in the stat is 6% and applies to the sale, rental or lease of personal property and some services. It also has a state gambling lottery.
