While five county seats are indicated here, Hawaii has four official county seats, all established in 1905.
Wailuku is the county seat of Maui county, including Lanai, Kahoolawe, Molokai, and Maui. Hilo is the county seat of Hawaii county, represented by the main island of Hawaii. The city of Honolulu is Honolulu's county seat, the county itself encompassing Oahu and the northwestern islands of Niihau and Kauai. Lihue is Kauai's county seat, the county including the rest of Niihau and Kauai.
Each county seat is marked to show the geographical location and political boundaries of these administrative units. As local governance, the county seats of Hawaii function in diverse fields that lead to overall improvement of each county.
