The United States Census Bureau has divided Florida into the following areas - 3 Combined Statistical Areas, 10 Metropolitan Statistical Areas and 20 Metropolitan Statistical Areas.

Florida is the 27th state of United States covering an area of 65,755 square miles. Tallahassee is the state capital; the largest city in Florida is Jacksonville while South Florida metropolitan area is the largest metro area in the state. Here are the ten largest cities in the state:

Jacksonville - It is the largest city in Florida in terms of both size and population. Covering an area of 885 square miles, the city is popular for tourist golfers. Interstate 10, Interstate 95 and Interstate 295 are the three highways which run through the city.

Miami - Located in southeastern Florida, it is the most populous county in the state with a population of about 2,500,625. Forbes Magazine ranked Miami as the cleanest city in America for its recycling programs and good quality of natural resources like water and air. Florida State Roads which pass through the city include - SR 112, SR 821, SR 826, SR 836, SR 874, SR 878 and SR 924.

Tampa - Is a part of the Tampa Bay Area and a major city in Florida, having a population of about 335,709. It is a very popular tourist destination with over 150 parks and 2,286 acres of beach area with the city. Major airports in Tampa are - Tampa International Airport, Peter O. Knight Airport and Tampa Executive Airport.

St Petersburg - Located in Florida's Pinellas County, it is the fourth largest city in the state, covering an area of about 133.1 square miles. Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority operates the public transport in this city.

Hialeah - Located in Miami-Dade County, it is the sixth largest city in Florida with an area of around 19.7 square miles. The three metro rail stations which serve the city are - Tri-Rail Transfer Station, Okeechobee Station and Hialeah Station.

Orlando - It is the county seat of Orange County in Florida. With an area of 101.0 square miles, it is the third largest metro area in Florida. It is a major industrial city, where the technology sector employs around 53,000 people.

Fort Lauderdale - It is the county seat of Broward County in Florida. Known as the Venice of America, it is a popular tourist destination with over 1 million people coming here every year. The city has over 11 miles of beach area, as it is located near the Atlantic Ocean.

Tallahassee - It is the capital city of Florida and also the only incorporated municipality in Leon County. The city is also referred to as the state college city with several prominent universities including The Florida State University and Florida A&M University located here.

Pembroke Pines - With an area of 34.4 square miles, it is one of the largest cities in Florida's Broward County. The city has a population of 150,064, making it the second most populous city in the county.

Hollywood - It is a city in Broward County located near the Atlantic Ocean. Municipalities which surround the city include - Cooper City, Miramar, Hallandale Beach and Dania Beach.
