Universities in Connecticut







Connecticut is home to the country's first law school, the Litchfield Law School, which operated from 1773 to 1833.

Connecticut is home of Yale University, which is one of the largest employer in the state and is famous for its research activity. Apart from Yale University, there are other academic institutions. Connecticut State University System is a public university system in the state which comprises four universities. It enrolls more than 36,500 students and 180,000 alumni. It is the largest university system in the state.

Litchfield Law School

Litchfield Law School is a private school located in Litchfield. It was established in 1784 by Tapping Reeve and was the first school in the country that provided formal training for the legal profession. The Law school and Reeve's house were declared a National Historic Landmark in 1965 as the Tapping Reeve House and Law School. The school was closed in 1883.

The University of Connecticut

The University of Connecticut is a public research university located in Connecticut. It enrolls more than 30,000 students on its six campuses. It was founded in 1881 as the Storrs Agricultural School. The name of the university was changed several times, and it finally became the University of Connecticut in 1939. It has been ranked the top public university in New England by US News and World Report.




Yale University

Yale University is a private, Ivy League university in New Haven, Connecticut. It is the third-oldest institution of higher education in the country. Founded in 1701, the President and Fellows of Yale College is the governing board of the University. It is ranked among the top universities in the world. In 1900, it became a founding member of the Association of American Universities. It enrolls approximately 11,000 students and offers courses in number of disciplines. The total assets of the university include a US $19.4 billion endowment, the second-largest of any academic institution.

Trinity College

Trinity College is a private, liberal arts college in Hartford. It is the second-oldest college in the state and was founded in 1823 as Washington College. The college enrolls 2,300 students and has been co-educational since 1969. It is regarded as one of the few Little Ivies and offers 38 majors and 26 minors.
