Northern Arizona University was initially named, "The Northern Arizona Normal School". It was formed on September 11, 1899. The campus of Northern Arizona University is spread across 738 acres and includes 24 residential buildings. In 1966, the college was granted full university status and its name was changed to Northern Arizona University. The institution undertakes a growing amount of research.
