University of Alaska Southeast







The University of Alaska was founded in 1917 in Fairbanks, Alaska. The University of Alaska Southeast is one of the three main universities of the University of Alaska System.

The other two universities are University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) and University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA). UAS dedicates itself in providing the best liberal arts education.

The University of Alaska Southeast is a growing regional university. The main campus of the University is situated in Juneau and the extended campuses are located in Sitka and Ketchikan. Around 700 full-time and 2,000 part-time students study at the University of Alaska Southeast Juneau campus. Degree and certificate programs including master’s and bachelor’s degrees are offered at the college.

The Ketchikan Campus is the oldest campus of the region. It was initially established as Ketchikan Community College in 1954 and was merged with the statewide University System in 1987. The degrees offered at UAS Ketchikan are departmental certificates of completion, one-year certificates and two-year associate of applied science degrees. The Ketchikan Campus of the University of Alaska Southeast also offers vocational technical programs in health care, maritime, welding, business and professional development, visitor industry, fisheries technology and forest technology. Through distance education students can study for Small Business Management Certificate and Associate of Arts degree online.


The Sitka Community College that was established in 1962 was merged with University of Alaska in 1987 to form the Sitka Campus. The degrees offered at the college are departmental certificates of completion, certificates, associate of applied science and associate of arts degree.
