The University of Alaska Anchorage is the largest school of the University of Alaska System.

Alaska has more than a dozen universities. It has both state-run and private universities. These universities are either two-year institutions or four-year institutions. There are other institutions providing tertiary, quaternary, and post-secondary education.

University of Alaska, Anchorage

The University of Alaska Anchorage is the largest school of the University of Alaska System. Its main campus is located in Anchorage. It was established in 1954 and has an annual enrollment of approximately 16,500 students. It is divided into six teaching units at the main campus: the colleges of Education, Health and Social Welfare, Arts and Sciences, Business and Public Policy, the Community and Technical College, and the School of Engineering. It offers graduate, masters and Doctor of Philosophy's degrees. It became a four year institution in 1954.

Charter College

Charter College is located in Anchorage, Alaska. It is a private college which has campuses in Alaska, California, and Washington. The college was founded in 1985 by Dr. Milton Byrd. It offers courses in Business, Criminal Justice, Health Care, Information Technology, and Construction Management.

Alaska Pacific University

Alaska Pacific University, also known as APU, is a private university located in Anchorage. It is a liberal arts college and is a member of Eco League, a group of five small universities and colleges. It was chartered as Alaska Methodist University by the Territory of Alaska in 1957. The university offers Early Honors and nine different graduate programs. The university is the most recent of more than 1,200 United Methodist educational institutions founded in the country over the last 200 years.



Matanuska-Susitna College

Matanuska-Susitna College is located in Palmer , Matanuska-Susitna Borough, Alaska. It is a part of the University of Alaska Anchorage system. It started as Palmer Community College in 1958. It was renamed in 1963 to correspond to the place where it is located. The annual enrollment of students is about 1,650. The university offers two-year associate degree programs and a few vocational programs.
