Southern Community College is a private, not-for-profit two-year institution. This post-secondary technical college under the Alabama Nonprofit Corporation Act was established on July 25, 1969.
Reverend Lawrence F. Haygood was the founder of the Southern Community College. The Council on Occupational Education (COE) accredits the College. Eligible students from the College may receive Pell Grants and other federal aid ( e.g. Direct Loans).
The College provides 20,000 square feet of interior space over two floors. The facilities provided by the College include several classrooms, computer labs, administrative and faculty offices, conference room, library/media resources room, storage areas and multi-purpose room. Southern Community College also provides the Licensed Practical Nursing Program that is designed to prepare the student to render safe and effective bedside nursing to patients. After completing the program successfully, the student can take the NCLEX-PN Examination required for licensure.
