The 2004 United States presidential elections in Vermont were won by the Democrats. Democratic senator John F. Kerry won by about 20 percentage points. Republican George W. Bush managed to earn 121,180 popular vote as against Kerry's 184,067.

Maintaining their grip on the state politics, the Democrats swept the 2008 presidential elections in Vermont. Democrat nominee Barack Obama won by a 37.0% margin of victory, carrying all the counties by more than 60 percent of the vote except the Essex County.

As in the 2004 elections, Chittenden County gave an edge to the Democrats while the county of Essex voted highly in favor of the Republicans.
