Maintaining their grip on the state politics, the Democrats swept the 2008 presidential elections in Vermont. Democrat nominee Barack Obama won by a 37.0% margin of victory, carrying all the counties by more than 60 percent of the vote except the Essex County. As in the 2004 elections, Chittenden County gave an edge to the Democrats while the county of Essex voted highly in favor of the Republicans.
