Maine and Nebraska are the only two American states that divide electoral votes by congressional district. The 2008 United States presidential elections in Maine also saw the Democrats emerging triumphant. Democrat nominee Barack Obama won the elections in the state with 57.71% of the vote. Since 1992, Maine has voted in favour of the Democratic party. In both 2004 and 2008 elections, the maximum votes for the Democrats came from the Cumberland County while the county of Piscataquis earned the least number.
