The 2008 United States presidential elections in the state kept with the Republican trend. It was a comfortable victory for the Republican nominee, John McCain who emerged victorious by a 25.3% margin against the Democrat, Barack Obama. McCain won all the four electoral votes. The results were expected to fall in favor of the Republicans as Idaho is believed to be a safely Republican state. The Canyon county fetched the maximum votes for the majority party; out of the total 64246 votes cast, Republicans earned 42752. As in the 2004 elections, the least number of votes came from the county of Clark. Since 1964, voters have not backed a Democrat for president.
