The 2008 United States presidential elections in Hawaii were also swept by the Democrats. The Democrat nominee, Barack Obama captured the state with a 45.3% margin of victory to win the presidency. The maximum votes came from the Hawaiian capital, Honololu, which is also the birthplace of the Democrat. Out of the total 306813 votes casted in the capital, 214239 were won by the Democrats. Since 1988, Hawaii has been a Democrat majority state and the massive victory of Obama in 2008 further strengthened the party's grip on the state politics.
