In 2008 elections, California chose fifty five electors to the Electoral College, the maximum number by any state. Democratic nominee Barack Obama won the elections with a 24.0% margin of victory. As in the 2004 elections, Los Angeles got the maximum votes for the Democratic party; of the total 3318248 votes, 2295853 fell in favor of the Democrats. The least number of votes came from the county of Alpine with the Democratic party getting only 422 votes. The state was initially Republican dominated but since the 1990s it has been trending Democratic and the massive victory in the 2008 elections further strengthened the stronghold of the party.
