Hawaii Home Insurance

A rather endearing little saying says a house is built of walls and beams; a home is built with love and dreams. Home insurance may not be able to do much about your loves and dreams but it is essential that you invest in the same to protect those walls and beams.

Home Insurance in Hawaii is essentially :-

• A legal, binding contract between the policy holder and the Delaware home insurance company

• An agreement for fiscal protection against disaster in exchange for premiums payable every month or a 6 months depending on the contract.

•Protection for home, domestic belongings and other structures on the insured's property

•Protection against one's expenses incurred in case he/she suffers a loss and has to search for another residence.

Since Hurricane Iniki in 1992 a lot of home insurance policies do not include hurricane insurance in its scope. These days there are two ways you can avail of hurricane insurance. You could buy a separate hurricane policy or you could buy a combined policy that includes hurricane insurance.

Two policies

Most insurance companies and agents offer two different policies. One policy protects against loss due to damage caused by fire, theft, vandalism, non-hurricane wind damage and liability, among other covered causes of loss.

The second policy protects against fiscal loss due to hurricanes. This coverage is usually triggered by the issuance of a hurricane watch or warning by the Central Pacific Hurricane Center, and includes damage occurring within 72 hours following cancellation of the watch or warning. Typically, the hurricane policy carries a separate deductible, which ranges between 1-5% of the sum your home is valuated at.

Until recently, insurance companies providing two policies received hurricane coverage through the Hawaii Hurricane Relief Fund (HHRF). However, the HHRF stopped providing policies in December 2000, as there are now numerous sources of private coverage available.

One Policy

In other cases, you will get one policy that covers all kinds of casualties, including hurricane. In this case, there will still be two different articles, one for hurricane and one for all other causes of loss. When taken as a whole, the coverages that you get may not be much dissimilar to the one mentioned above. However, the same insurance company will be liable to settle all of your claims.
