Home insurance or homeowners insurance is an insurance that covers the policy-holder's home. Its contents and other personal property, as well as liability insurance for accidents that may happen at home, are covered by this policy.
The cost of the policy depends on replacement costs of the home and on what other condionalities; additional items that are to be insured are attached to the policy. The policy is a lengthy contract and states what will and will not be covered by the policy. For example, earthquakes, floods or similar ‘Acts of God' are generally not included in the scope of the policy. War defined as nuclear reaction from any source, too is not included in the policy. However separate types of policies can be purchased for coverage of these events.
Most insurers charge less if it appears that the home is less likely to damaged. For example a home situated next to a fire station or house equipped with sprinklers and fire /smoke alarms.
In U.S.A most home insurance premiums are paid along with mortgage payments. Though premiums are due every six months the bank/ lender is paid the mortgage payments and one sixth of the premium. This process is called impounding and provides the home owner insurance throughout the time period of the mortgage.
