The city of Fairbanks was incorporated on November 10, 1903 and E T Barnette, its real founder, became its first Mayor. The city was named Fairbanks in honor of Charles W Fairbanks, an Indiana senator who later became the Vice President of the United States under Theodore Roosevelt. Since the gold rush era of the early 1900s, the city has made a long and successful journey towards prosperity and development. Today, this Alaskan city, besides being a popular tourist destination, is also a significant economic entity of this area. The captivating beauty of Mount McKinley, the picturesque countryside and the aura of surprise and mysticism, surrounding the city’s history about the gold-rush era, are enough to draw tourists from around the world for an Alaskan tour.
Now, Fairbanks has developed into a more diverse economy, but it is still trying to retain the competitive advantage of being an important natural resources provider of the USA. The two most crucial Fairbanks’s natural advantages have always been forestry, and oil and natural gas. Apart from this, it also has the capacity to become a powerful technological center in the north due to its highly intellectual human resource and good infrastructure.
