Baseball in USA, considered to be the national game of this country, is enmeshed in the cultural psyche of its people. USA Baseball has a long history to narrate, though its origin in 19th century is rather obscure and Abner Doubleday in New York has been mythically given the credit for the game's invention.

Americans realized that the game has a unifying power in the national context when the nation passed through the miseries of the Depression of 1930s. Today, the two important professional leagues of baseball in USA are the American League and the National League. The champions of these two leagues lock horns in World Series, one of the important postseason playoff series in American baseball tournaments.
