The Art Institute of Miami , the Miami International University of Art and Design was established in 1965. Students at the Art Institute of Miami receive a hands on, industry oriented training in all aspects of commercial art, fine arts, filmmaking, animation and illustration.

Students design actual rooms, go photo shooting on location, design creative advertising campaigns, develop original computer animation and graphics and create original artwork. The Art Institute of Miami has an active Career Services department that encourages students to enter their original works in competitions, pursue extra-curricular projects and attend relevant seminars and workshops to not just learn but also network with peers.

The Miami International University of Art and Design offers Associate of Arts programs as well as Bachelors Programs in Arts and Fine Arts. Masters in Fine Arts programs are also available in Computer Animation, Film, Graphic Design, Interior Design and the Visual Arts. Online degrees can be earned in Computer Animation and Graphic Design.

• Accessory Design - This program offers students basic training in the arts and general studies. Special training is provided in understanding the elements of Design, Color Theory, Different materials and trimmings and in International fashion trends. Accessory design students are trained in designing objects as diverse as shoes and jewelery to hats and other functional pieces.
• Film - Students are encouraged to develop their creative abilities and are taught the basics of narrative filmmaking where they write scripts, direct footage and edit film under the guidance of the faculty. Students are also oriented with the culture, discipline and professional protocols of the industry.
• Home Furnishings Merchandising - Students study the furnishing retail industry and are trained to develop their eye for detail and nose for business. Following International Trends, students learn which items have more appeal and salable value. Students also learn how to conduct their professional dealings and how to handle clients and buyers.
