The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale was set up in September 1968. Since it's inception, the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale has garnered many laurels, the most recent ones being awarded with the Career College of the Year by the National Alliance of Business in 2001 and as the College of the Year in Florida Award in 2004. Chef's Palette, the on campus restaurant run by students of the Culinary Arts Programs in the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale , received the American Culinary Federation's Achievement of Excellence Award in 2005 and the Interior Design Department was accredited by the Council for Interior Design in 2006.

The Art Institute of Tampa is accredited as a branch of the Miami International University of Art and Design. Students are selected on the basis of their talents through intensive interviews where their background and related interests are examined in relation to the Art Institute of Tampa's program criteria. The Art Institute of Tampa offers students an opportunity to build up an excellent portfolio by working part time for major corporations, or through seminars and presentations. Students are trained in the latest softwares and equipment as well as up to date theory classes to keep them abreast of the developments in their chosen fields.
