The Art Institute of Cincinnati was established in the year 1979 by Marion K. Allman and Cyndi A. Mendell at the Gruen building. Later, before shifting to the Tri-county facility it was shifted to a building at E. Walnut Hills. The Art Institute of Cincinnati received official recognition by the International Council of Design Schools (ICDS) in the year 1979 and then in the year 1983 it became its licensed member.
The Art Institute of Cincinnati has limited seats hence is very strict in giving admission to students.
